The Raintree Arts Council invites Pike and Lincoln county writers to submit poetry, short fiction and nonfiction essays of general interest (no literary criticism) for potential publication.
Mission:
The Raintree Arts Council literary journal is dedicated to discovering the literary talent of Pike and Lincoln County residents. Via publication, it is our mission to promote the production of literary works and to bring this work to the widest audience possible. As with most respected literary journals, the new RAC journal will seek to uphold the fundamentals of some conventional literary traditions while paving the way for work that speaks to a new and diverse audience.
Submission Guidelines:
Fiction--previously unpublished work only. Manuscripts must be typed, double-spaced, on one side of the paper only and not exceed 5,000 words. Multiple submissions up to 2 stories.
Poetry--previously unpublished work only. Must be typed on one side of the paper only, 70 line limit per poem. Multiple submissions up to 5-7 poems.
Nonfiction--previously unpublished work only. Must be typed on one side of the paper only and not exceed 2500 words. Multiple submissions up to 2 essays.
General Submissions must include a cover letter with your name, address, e-mail, phone number, title of piece(s), and word/line count. Paper submissions should be accompanied by an electronic version of the document in Microsoft Word, a standard text file, or pdf format. Electronic submissions may be included with the paper copy on an accompanying disk or included as an e-mail attachment. Anyone finding the necessity for electronic submission as a barrier to participation should contact the project representatives for viable alternatives. Also, writers should include an SASE or valid email address for notification. Do not include personal information anywhere on the manuscript. The Raintree Arts Council
can assume no liability for entries lost in the mail or damaged. No entries will be returned.
Submissions not adhering to the above guidelines will not be considered. Simultaneous submissions are acceptable as long as the council is notified if a work is accepted elsewhere.
Juried Selection:
Submissions will be reviewed anonymously by a panel of 3-5 judges who represent the professional and academic writing fields, the Raintree Arts Council and the citizenry of Pike and Lincoln counties.
